Get the Most out of Your Assets with the PI System and Maximo

In the age of the Internet of Things, pieces of equipment that were once isolated hunks of metal are now equipped with sensors and communication modules, resulting in a network of assets that can (and should!) be monitored with the PI System. These technological improvements, however, have increased the cost of assets at a time when workforce numbers are decreasing. As a result, the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC), like many companies, has increasingly needed to squeeze as much value out of their resources and assets as possible. In this talk, SFPUC describes how they integrated PI System data into Maximo. With this data, they were able to move from scheduled to condition-based maintenance to optimize asset life and performance while simultaneously improving the efficiency of their maintenance staff.

Paul Bonitz, Lisa Michelle Slaughter

Paul Bonitz is a Utility Specialist for the SFPUC and is currently the Asset Management Group Supervisor for the Planning and Regulatory Compliance Division of Wastewater Enterprise. He was a Maintenance Planner and Chief Stationary Engineer in several city departments prior to working with the Asset Management Group. In addition, he has spent time operating a water treatment plant with the SFPUC. As Maintenance Planner, Mr. Bonitz was responsible for the water system, which consisted of two Water Treatment Plants and six pump stations, including the Repair and Rehabilitation Project CIP program. As Chief Stationary Engineer at the San Francisco Unified School District, he was responsible for the operation, repair, maintenance and preventive maintenance of the utility systems of over 150 school buildings. Mr. Bonitz received his Marine Engineering Technology degree from the California Maritime Academy and has a Water Treatment Operator-Treatment Grade IV Certificate as well as a Mechanical Technologist Grade IV Certificate. Lisa Michelle Slaughter is a Project Manager and Engineer with the Industrial Data Group at DST Controls in Benicia, California. In her two years there, she has been involved in every step that data takes on its journey from inception to consumption. She is currently involved in multiple projects that leverage the PI Web API and PI SDK to analyze, transfer, and visualize large amounts of site data. She has performed multiple PI System installations of varying architectures in such industries as mining, pharma, food and beverage, power generation, and wastewater. Ms. Slaughter holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from California Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo with minors in Mathematics and Music."
